Details – Transmission configuration
The Variable Power Divider (VPD) is a transmission module for vehicles that is installed between the combustion engine (VKM) and an automatic transmission (AT) or an automated manual transmission (AMT) and divides the drive power from the combustion engine to the traction drive and the auxiliary units (PTO). The special feature of the VPD transmission is the stepless adjustment of the transmission ratio between the combustion engine and the transmission input of the traction drive (AT or AMT). The auxiliary units are driven via a direct coupling between the combustion engine and the PTO output shaft with a fixed transmission ratio.
The vehicle speed can be continuously adjusted to the respective working conditions independently of the combustion engine speed, while the auxiliary units are operated at a constant speed. The continuously variable transmission ratio is adjusted by a planetary superimposed gearbox, whereby only a small proportion of the power is transmitted via the hydrostatic variator. Most of the power is transmitted purely mechanically, which ensures very high efficiency of the overall system.
Functionality:
Transport mode: The transmission ratio from the engine to the vehicle transmission remains stable in this mode. The vehicle speed is controlled using the accelerator pedal or cruise control.
Working mode: The engine speed is set to a fixed value by the driver. The VPD control unit regulates the input speed to the vehicle transmission (AT or AMT) and thus determines the speed of the vehicle. The mounted implement is driven at a constant speed in working mode.
Advantages:
Stepless control of the vehicle speed with constant engine and PTO speed for the implement
The change between drive mode and work mode is fully automatic as specified by the driver
Wear-free variator system with small units for optimum efficiency
Extremely simple operation thanks to electronic control of all functions
